For the second day in a row, the Eagles were held to only four hits, as the Pacers earned the series win by winning Sunday’s rubber match. The Eagles took the opening game of the series 8-0 on Friday, while USC Aiken won 6-0 yesterday, and today’s result was the third shutout of the weekend.

Eagles Split Saturday Doubleheader in Augusta
AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Carson-Newman Eagles baseball team (1-2) split a doubleheader with the Augusta State Jaguars (2-1), losing in the first contest 5-4 while picking up a 10-0 victory in the second game to close out play at Lake Olmstead Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The second game featured a complete game shutout victory for Eagle right-handed starter Quinton Yocom (1-0), who pitched seven innings while only allowing four hits as he struck out five in the first Carson-Newman victory of the season.

Eagles drop season opener 10-6
AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Carson-Newman Eagles baseball team fell in their first game of the 2013 season, losing 10-6 to the Augusta State Jaguars at Lake Olmstead Stadium on Friday afternoon. An eight-run bottom of the fifth inning for Augusta State powered the Jaguars to victory, with the main damage coming from left fielder Nate Crown on his 3-run double in the inning to give the Jaguars a 6-4 lead.

Eagles picked to finish fifth in preseason SAC poll
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman Eagles baseball team was tabbed for a fifth place finish in the 2013 South Atlantic Conference preseason coaches poll, announced by the league office on Tuesday. Carson-Newman finished fifth in the SAC a season ago, and no Eagles were named to the preseason SAC first or second team.

Cishek to pitch for Team USA in World Baseball Classic
MIAMI – Former Carson-Newman standout and Miami Marlins relief pitcher Steve Cishek was named to the Team USA provisional roster for the 2013 World Baseball Classic, announced by Major League Baseball on Thursday. Cishek, who pitched for the Eagles from 2005-07, collected 15 saves with a 2.69 ERA in 68 appearances last year for the Marlins as he earned the closer role in the Miami bullpen.

Jefferson City, Tenn. – Carson-Newman’s baseball club is stockpiling live arms as it gears up for the 2013 season. Head baseball coach Tom Griffin announced the signing of 10 pitchers Friday. Griffin welcomes Kyle Wentz, Blake Ballinger, Marcus Watson, Jacob King, Josh Russell, Quinton Yocum, Hunter Rich, Dustin Dunagen, James Jinnett and Phillip Pardue to the Eagles’ bullpen.
