Lady Eagles take 2nd; Eagles finish 5th at C-N Cross Country Challenge
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman Lady Eagles claimed second on their home course at the C-N Cross Country Challenge held Saturday morning at Panther Creek State Park.
C-N finished behind champion Tiffin University, but topped South Atlantic Conference opponents Lincoln Memorial University (3rd), Brevard College (4th), Catawba College (5th), and Tusculum College (8th) in the race.
The course will serve as the host to the South Atlantic Conference Championships on Oct. 22.
Juniors Brooke Earhardt (Dickson, Tenn.) and Meredith Nix (Walhalla, S.C.) finished together at 16th and 17th, respectively. Earhardt closed at 21:32, with Nix finishing at 21:37.
All of the Lady Eagles finished in the top half of the field.
The host Carson-Newman Eagles finished fifth overall.
The Eagles finished ahead of SAC opponents Catawba College and Tusculum College in the race.
Freshman Matt Mifflin (Crossville, Tenn.) finished at 37th in just over 31 minutes.
Sophomore Joey Nielsen (Ringgold, Ga.) took 41st, while freshman Mark Edwards (Greeneville, Tenn.) finished 55th in the race.
Tiffin University took the race championship, averaging just under 27 minutes for its times. The Dragons Colin Fisher won the race with a time of 25:34.
The Eagles and Lady Eagles run again next weekend at The Citadel Invitational.
